Why these Workshops?

How many times have you said to a client – ‘Yes I can hear how complicated things are for you and we will work through it all layer by layer?’ Or, ‘Everything seems to be meshed together in one big knotted ball, but we will unravel it together.’ Sound familiar?

So many clients come to therapy because they feel overwhelmed with what’s going on in their lives. They may feel everything is ‘too much’ and there is no way out of the chaos they find themselves in.

We listen intently and try our best to fully understand how our clients feel, by easing ourselves into their world through empathy. We try to create the right environment to help them make sense of their unhappiness, their lives and their hopes for change.

But given the sometimes confused, highly complex narratives of some clients, it can be difficult for the therapist to make sense of what’s going on in the room. The client may dart from one subject to another. There may be an array of contradictions. Sometimes, as therapists, a parallel process occurs within us and we become confused and struggle to ‘track’ our client.

Becoming fully aware of the universal process of authenticity-versus-conditioning that lies beneath the narrative, can give us a huge advantage in understanding our clients with greater depth and clarity. This process is not new to the world of psychotherapy: Carl Rogers wrote extensively about it. But, unfortunately, it has been overlooked by our profession over the years.

This introductory workshop will give you invaluable tools for understanding and clarifying exactly what goes on both inside and outside the room for your clients and how you can help them to recognise and develop authenticity.
